Tokyo, Japan — July 29, 2026 — Solafune Inc. extends its deepest sympathies to all those affected by the earthquake centered in Kumamoto Prefecture.

In response to the earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture at approximately 4:27 p.m. JST on July 28, 2026 (Magnitude 7.1, maximum seismic intensity of 7 on the Japan Meteorological Agency scale), Solafune has launched the AI Disaster Information Aggregation Map today.

Key Features

The map provides users with access to the following information:

  • Earthquake information published by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), including the epicenter, magnitude, and maximum seismic intensity.

  • Currently operating evacuation shelters announced by Kumamoto City and municipalities across Kumamoto Prefecture. For Kumamoto City, the map displays the number of evacuated households and evacuees; for other municipalities, shelter capacity is shown.

  • More than 3,000 designated emergency evacuation sites and evacuation shelters throughout Kumamoto Prefecture.

  • Real-time Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) observations published by Japan's Ministry of the Environment for locations classified as "Warning" level or higher.

  • AI-analyzed and categorized public posts from platforms including X and Instagram, displaying reported damage such as liquefaction, flooding, and fires together with location information.

  • Filtering by municipality, information category, and keyword, as well as sorting by urgency or chronological order after the disaster.

  • Downloadable datasets in CSV and GeoJSON formats for use by media organizations, local governments, researchers, and GIS professionals.

  • Multiple basemap options, including a light map, standard map, and pre-disaster aerial imagery.

  • News articles are presented only with their headline, publisher, publication time, and a link to the original article. Article text, photographs, and videos are not reproduced.

  • Information is updated regularly by Solafune. (At present, updates are performed manually rather than automatically.)

Background

Immediately following a major disaster, critical information is often fragmented across multiple sources, making it difficult to understand local conditions quickly.

Solafune has been developing technologies for satellite data analysis and AI-based disaster information analysis using publicly available social media data. Following this earthquake, the company prioritized making its currently available capabilities accessible to the public as quickly as possible in order to support disaster response and situational awareness.

Solafune will continue improving the platform and expanding the available information as the situation evolves.
